  "Who produced Fuggle's hops?" In 1875 the new Fuggles hop was successfully introduced to the brewing market by Richard Fuggle of Brenchley in Kent. Read Kim Cook's Fuggle story from the Brewery History files
  • Pedigree: A chance seedling selected in 1875 by Richard Fuggle in England. Virtually identical to Styrian from Austria/Germany or Savinja Golding from Yugoslavia.
  • General Trade Perception: A hop long associated with typical English Ale brewing. Imparts good hoppy late-hop flavour
  • Possible Substitutions: Willamette, Styrian Golding, US Tettnang
  • Beer Styles: English style beers, ESB, Bitter, Lager
  • Other Information: Once the predominant hop in England but now reserved for aroma use in conjunction with high alpha types.
  • Maturity: Middle August
  • Yield: 1,200 - 1,500 kg./ha. or 1,050 - 1,350 lb./ac.
  • Growth Habit: Neat and manageable
  • Disease Reaction: Not seriously affected by Prunus necrotic ring-spot virus. Resistant to downy mildew. Not excessively sensitive to insects.
  • Lupulin: Moderate amount, orange-yellow colour
  • Cone Structure: Small and rather light, medium compact
  • Aroma: Mild and spicy
