  • Pedigree: Phoenix is an early-ripening Wilt resistant dual-purpose variety which was developed at Wye College at the same time as Admiral. It is a seedling of the high alpha variety Yeoman bred as a replacement for Challenger.
  • Maturity: Early.
  • Yield: 1,000 - 1,750 kg/ha or 900 - 1,600 lb./ac
  • Growth Habit: Well hopped down, not vigorous.
  • Disease Reaction: Resistant to most diseases, except susceptible to downy mildew.
  • Cone-Structure: Light and fluffy.

  • Aroma: Mellow, similar to Wye Challenger
  • General Trade Perception: Phoenix has performed well as a replacement for high alpha or dual purpose hops early in the boil. From early storage trials stability of the alpha acids in Phoenix are excellent.
  • Substitution: Northdown, Kent Golding, Challenger.
